The PSM is being rebranded to "Hands for Outreach." We are going to be concentrating on outreach to the homeless. We will be making mats out of plarn, which is "yarn" made out of plastic bags, like the ones from Publix or Walmart. This "yarn" is easy to make out of the bags and we will be glad to teach anyone who would want to help us by making balls of the yarn for us. Once created, this yarn is suitable for knitting or crocheting with large-diameter needles and hooks, or can be finger-crocheted.

Additionally, we will be using traditional acrylic yarn (for washability and durability) to make hats, mittens and fingerless gloves to be also donated to the homeless. These can be knitted, crocheted or loomed. We are glad to teach anyone who wishes to join in this Ministry.

Friends and family gathered at One Blood to congratulate Frank Knight on reaching a milestone of donating 175 gallons of blood. Wow! Frank started donating blood 63 years ago while attending Florida State University. At one time, Frank ranked third in the entire state of Florida for the amount of blood donated by one individual. Frank has a special blood type that is essential for those who are in need of the same type of blood. He once met a lady who thanked him personally for saving her life. No doubt, there are many others who would like to thank him too! We are proud of Frank's accomplishment and his lifesaving contribution to our community.

What is "Ordinary Time"?

An excerpt from a piece written by The Rev. Stephen D. Pecot, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Apalachicola:

In our church calendar we are now in “Ordinary Time”, which started the Monday after Pentecost and ends the Saturday before the First Sunday of Advent. The liturgical color for this period is green, so you will see the church adorned with that color for some time.

But that word—ordinary—doesn’t mean plain, simple, and predictable; no, it is about having order. The word originates from Latin (ordinarius) and means regular, customary, or numbered. I like to think of it also as structured, which, being a creature of habit and stability, is right up my alley. Ordinary Time is considered a time in the church in which we challenge ourselves to grow and mature in our walk with Christ. Where do you need to grow? Do you need to do something new, or put something away? Because sometimes the best growth and the best fruit comes after pruning (John 15:1-5).
